Winemaker's Notes
Crafted from fruit grown in the Columbia Valley of Washington, the 2004 Desert Wind Ruah is an affirmation of eastern Washington's viticultural prowess. Our full bodied, Bordeaux-inspired blend is enveloped in a lush core of concentrated blackberry fruit with a hint of anise on the palate.

Aged for 10 months in American oak barrels, the wine has hints of toasted oak and almond spice, as well as a rich garnet color, which is complimented by soft, velvety tannins and a lingering finish.

Vineyard
The Wahluke Slope is located in Eastern Washington. This site is considered a zone 3, the hottest in the Columbia Valley. The family's 480-acre vineyard is a southern facing block with a 2% down hill slope. The soil is very shallow and rocky and the vines are irrigated with an underground drip system. Double catch wires are used to increase air circulation during the growing season. Leaf pulling and cluster thinning are important steps in aiding the ripening of the grapes.

"Deceptively graceful at first, with a Burgundian-like perfume, this quickly delivers a torrent of fruit - blackberry, boysenberry and black currant - that cascades over itself, pushed from behind by flavors of mocha, mineral, tar and violets. Long, sweet and pure through a densely structured finish. Best from 2008 through 2030."
