Over the years, our winemaking team has become intimately familiar with the subtle nuances of the fruit grown in the appellations found here. Clos du Bois Appellation Reserve Series showcases the terroir of Sonoma County's most exclusive winegrowing areas.

Vintage
Very early bud break and a warm spring led to one of the earliest harvests in Clos du Bois history. Temperatures were moderate much of the growing season with a heat spell in early September that pushed ripeness to optimal levels. Crop levels were well below average in nearly all varietals. Good acidity, and fresh vibrant flavors were the hallmark of the 2004 white vintage. With reds we saw outstanding flavor and color development, and concentrated round rich tannins. Winemaking This Chardonnay comes from free-run and soft-press juice only. It was 100% barrel fermented and 100% of the wine completed malolactic fermentation. Prior to bottling, the wine aged for nine months in 100% French and European oak, 40% of which was new. The barrels were lees stirred once every three weeks.

Winemaker Notes

Brilliant silver straw yellow in color with aromas of ripe apple blossom, ripe pear, a hint of white peach and citrus with roasted oak and vanilla. It's bright with juicy viscosity and rich ripe apple and pear flavors and a long fresh aftertaste. The texture is silky smooth with a creaminess achieved by hand stirring the lees in barrels during the sur lie aging.

ECOLOGICALLY RESPECTFUL WINE

Lutte Raisonnee
The "reasoned fight" approach agricultural management calls for minimal treatments if necessary in the vineyard. It evaluates all of the farmer's economic objectives and risks while being respecful to the enviroment. It calls for use of non-residual products whenever possible. Use of herbicides in the vineyard is eliminated. Sulphur treatments are few and the powder form is never used for the sake of human health.
